Who voiced the Metro Boomin tag — and where did it come from?
The line comes from Young Thug's vocal on “Some More”, a track Metro produced for his 2013 mixtape 19 & Boomin. Metro clipped Thug's ad-lib and started stamping it on his beats — by 2016 it was one of the most recognized sounds in rap.
It's often misattributed to Future because Future voiced Metro's other famous tag — “If Young Metro don't trust you, I'm gon' shoot you”, first heard on Drake & Future's “Jumpman” (2015). Two tags, two voices, one producer.
The “want some more” tag is the canonical example of a drop that outgrew its source song: quoted, memed, and recognizable from two words in. Its placement — first downbeat, right before the 808 enters — is imitated as much as its sound.
What songs use the Metro Boomin tag?
- Mask Off — Future (2017)
- Bad and Boujee — Migos (2016)
- Like That — Future, Metro Boomin & Kendrick Lamar (2024)
How to make a tag like Metro Boomin's (without copying it)
You can't use “Metro Boomin want some more” on your own beats: it is Metro Boomin's signature, and putting another producer's name or their original tag audio on your work misleads the artists and listeners who hear it. What you can borrow is the structure. Here is how this one is built.
- It is 5 words long, short enough to land before the first downbeat.
- The producer's name is inside the line, so the tag doubles as a credit. That is the one part you should always copy: put your own name in yours.
- It is voiced by Young Thug, not by Metro Boomin. Most famous tags work like this: a friend, an artist or a clip said the line once and the producer kept it. If you have a collaborator with a distinctive voice, ask them; otherwise pick an AI voice pad that matches the energy.
- For Trap beats, the TRAP preset (pitched down two semitones, reverb, stutter) is the closest starting point.
This tag was never written as a tag. It is a line an artist said on a song the two made together, clipped out and reused. If you work with rappers, listen back through your sessions for a moment where someone says your name with real energy; a found line usually sounds more natural than a scripted read.
Placement is the other half: the tag lands on the first downbeat, right before the 808 comes in, so it acts as a count-in. Try the same timing with yours, and keep it short enough that it ends before the drop. If you have no session clip yet, record a few takes of your name with the TRAP preset and keep the one that sounds least like a voice-over.
Write your own line with your name in it, then open the producer tag generator, pick a voice or record yourself, and start from the TRAP style preset. For more phrase starters see 50 producer tag ideas.
