PRODUCER TAG № 0013
HITMAKA PRODUCER TAG
“Hitmaka!”
Who voiced the Hitmaka tag — and where did it come from?
As he tells it, the tag was an accident: in a 2014 Miami session he blurted “Hitmaka” at the top of a take, liked how it hit, and adopted it — first as a drop, then as his whole identity, retiring the Yung Berg rap name.
It's the cleanest case of a tag *becoming* the artist: the producer named himself after his own drop, then rode it into an executive career running urban A&R at Atlantic.
The tag marks a lane, not just a maker — late-2010s melodic R&B-rap, from Big Sean's “Bounce Back” to A Boogie's “Look Back at It”.
What songs use the Hitmaka tag?
- Bounce Back — Big Sean (2016)
- Look Back at It — A Boogie wit da Hoodie (2018)
- Back Home — Trey Songz ft. Summer Walker (2020)
