Who voiced the Jahlil Beats tag — and where did it come from?

The chirpy voice announcing “Jahlil Beats, holla at me” is his niece, recorded when she was about three years old — one of the youngest voices behind any famous producer tag.

The beat that made it immortal had two lives: cut in 2012 as Lloyd Banks' “Jackpot” (originally intended for Meek Mill), then recycled in 2014 as Bobby Shmurda's “Hot N***a” — and suddenly a toddler's voice was opening the summer's biggest record.

Radio compression turned the high-pitched drop into rap's great mondegreen: half the internet heard “Jungle Beats” or “Jell-O Beats”, a mishearing meme Jahlil laughs about himself in Genius' making-of video.
