RONNY J PRODUCER TAG
“Oh my God, Ronny”
Who voiced the Ronny J tag — and where did it come from?
The tag was captured at a Los Angeles house party: a friend told a girl to say “Oh my God Ronny” into a live mic, she said it once or twice, and Ronny J kept it — “I need that, that could be a tag,” as he told The FADER. Her identity has never been made public.
He calls the drop “the calm before the storm” — a soft, startled voice announcing beats that are anything but, all blown-out 808s and clipped distortion.
Smokepurpp's “Audi.” (2017) carried the tag to SoundCloud-rap ubiquity, and within a year it was opening Kanye West & Lil Pump's “I Love It” and two cuts on Eminem's Kamikaze — about as fast as any tag has crossed from underground to A-list.
