PRODUCER TAG № 0036
30 ROC PRODUCER TAG
“30, you a fool for this one!”
Who voiced the 30 Roc tag — and where did it come from?
“30, you a fool for this one!” is attested everywhere from his own social handles to tag directories — but who recorded it has never been stated on record, and the phrase surfaces as early as a 2014 Young Cooley song title.
The famous irony: his biggest record carries no tag at all. The “ee-err” squeak opening Roddy Ricch's “The Box” — often mistaken for a producer drop — was improvised by Roddy himself after the song was done, as 30 Roc has confirmed. The #1 hit that made him Billboard's top Hot 100 producer is tagless.
The name predates the fame: a basement naming session with his brother Corey, who blurted “30 Roc” — they never decided which of them was “30” and which was “Roc”. The beat for “The Box”, original strings and all, took about fifteen minutes.
What songs use the 30 Roc tag?
- The Box — Roddy Ricch (2019)
- Rake It Up — Yo Gotti ft. Nicki Minaj (2017)
- Stargazing — Travis Scott (2018)
